The treatment for PDPH typically starts with conservative measures such as bed rest, hydration, and pain relief medication. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be used to manage mild to moderate headaches. If the headache is severe, prescription medication may be necessary.
In some cases, an epidural blood patch may be necessary to treat the headache. During this procedure, a small amount of the patient’s own blood is injected into the epidural space to seal the puncture site and restore normal CSF pressure.
